In early 2021, WBI worked with AFRL to identify the top most commercially-relevant technologies for active, targeted outreach efforts. Once those technologies were identified and marketing materials were developed, Rene' Meadors and Robert Prosak from commercialization services conducted outreach campaigns for each technology over the course of the summer. The result of those efforts includes 14 technologies, which were marketed, with 83 companies contacted. From this outreach, 15 companies requested more info, and 7 held prospective calls with inventors. From the prospective calls, one opportunity turned into an agreement negotiation for our AFRL client, meaning the technology will be further developed with a commercial partner

Results like these, alongside professional certifications, attracted the attention of Certified Licensing Professionals, Inc. The Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) program is a professional designation intended to distinguish those who have demonstrated experience, proficiency, knowledge and exposure to licensing and commercialization of intellectual property through active involvement in patenting, marketing, valuation, IP law, negotiation, business development and intellectual asset management.

Meghan Sheehan, Director of Commercialization services says, "
The fact that our full team has earned CLP certification, alongside our government knowledge and expertise, shows our clients that we have had the necessary training and professional recognition to handle any aspects of technology transfer (evaluation, valuation, patenting, marketing, licensing, negotiation strategy, etc.), while addressing the unique needs of a federal laboratory. Although we each have different roles on the team, clients are confident that no matter which member they work with, we all apply consistent and standardized best practices in technology transfer work. Having that trust and confidence in each other’s knowledge is an invaluable attribute for our clients."
